Daughter's New Room

Hi Everyone! Today I wanted to share some pics of my 13 year old daughter's room. We repainted and decorated it about 2 weeks ago. I don't have any before pictures,but believe me her room looks MUCH better! Before, her color scheme was apple green walls with pink and black. It was also very cluttered.She is in love with Tiffany blue and damask, so it was easy to come up with a new more grown up look for her room. The paint is a custom mix from a ribbon on her pillow. She also decided to pare down her decorations in order to bring a more calm feeling to this very small room.

Here's a shot of her bed. The damask coverlet and shams came from Steinmart. Can you believe the coverlet was only $19.99? The shams, however were $16.99 each! I still feel they were a deal because she loved them and every other damask bedding I priced was at least $200. The fleece blanket came from Target and just happened to match the Tiffany blue on her walls perfectly...decorating kismet!
The decorative pillows started out in life as black. It was not long before we realized black pillows and two shedding cats do not go very well together! We found this simple cotton fabric at Hobby Lobby and I made the covers myself. Here are a couple of closeups of the pillow's details:

The rolled and gathered roses are made from ribbon and finished with a decorative button in the middle. The pillow in the bottom picture was made to look like a present. This was my daughter's idea. I wrapped the ribbon around the pillow and sewed it together on the back. The bow is attached to the ribbon with hot glue and the whole thing can be slipped off to wash the pillow. In the center of the bow is a vintage rhinestone earring I purchased from Ebay a few years ago.

Above the bed is a collage that my daughter made. I bought the canvas at Hobby Lobby and she painted it and decorated it with some of her favorite things. She will add to it as she collects pictures and mementos.The sconces are from Kirklands and the damask candles are another Hobby Lobby find.
To the right of her bed is a curio cabinet my father-in-law made for my daughter. She houses her most precious things in there! My FIL also made the nightstand you see to the right. The lamps are originally from Target, but my daughter swiped them from my craft room! I think we need one extra pillow for her bed.We are looking out as we shop or come up with ideas for one.

Here is a tassel I made for her curio cabinet. I made it from a shoe Christmas ornament and matching trims and ribbons from my stash. I love it! The next pictures are of her dressers. These are vintage pieces that were bought at an auction and refinished by my father-in-law as well: Isn't he great?

As you can see I have been busy, but the craft room is calling, so I hope to have some new cards to share with you soon!

Gorgeous Gateaux Wedding Card

Hi everyone! I've been busy this weekend helping my 13 year old daughter redecorate her room as an early birthday present. We painted, rearranged furniture and attempted to put together her new vanity table but one of the legs is defective, so a replacement won't arrive till the end of the week. She chose a Tiffany blue for her walls with black and white damask bedding and accents. I'll post a picture when we are done!

I finally squeezed some crafting time in yesterday to make a card for this week's Shabby Tea Room Challenge.
The theme is Gorgeous Gateaux. The word "gateaux" is French for fancy cake. I have a pretty cake stamp,so I used it as the focal point.

I Adore You Valentine Card

Wow! I can't believe it's been almost a week since I last posted! The kids had an extra long holiday break this year and we've been busy! School lets in tomorrow and my house is a mess,but I have so much card making I want to do. I guess I'll pace myself and take some crafting breaks this week to get it all done.

Today's card is one I made for The Playdate Cafe and the Card Patterns Sketch Challenge. I made this on Saturday,but I couldn't get a decent photo due to the dreary weather we are having. The ones I took today are better,but not by much! I'm working on improving my photography and it is a slow roll!

Joyeux Noel Card

Hi guys! A quick share..I have exactly 1 million things to do today! I made this card for the Shabby Tea Room challenge.

I finally got my hands on a Grand Calibur die cutting machine on clearance at HSN last week. I ADORE that thing! I was using a Sizzix Big Kick to cut my Spellbinders and I was never able to get a good,deep emboss. The Grand Calibur whips through like a dream and gives me the look that is intended for these awesome dies.

How pretty! We were to use pinks,neutrals,gold,snowflakes and flowers. I can't believe I managed to get them all on!

Hi everyone! Just a quick card posting today. I made this card for The Shabby Tea Room challenge this week. I have to link this up before tomorrow. Better late than never!

We also had to incorporate a dry embossed element, so I embossed the pumpkins! I used Wild Honey Distress Ink to highlight the embossing.

Happy Friday everyone! We are actually enjoying some cool weather here in Georgia this week! It definitely is feeling like Fall (finally!) I hope is stays,but summer may make one last stand before it is over.

Last week over at The Catered Crop, I was chosen as one of two Top Chefs and our cards are this week's inspiration for the current recipe. Bonjour Eiffel Tower Card

Bonjour! Today's card has a French flavor! I decided to make another entry for the Just Rite Stamper's Sketch Challenge this month. I adore the Bonjour stamp set!

How beautiful is the background stamp?I highlighted the scroll work with a silver pen and added a Swarovski crystal to the top to the Eiffel Tower. In addition to entering Just Rite's challenge, I also used the inspiration picture for The Ribbon Reel's challenge 13. Here is the sketch and the inspiration picture:

Fall Greetings Card

Today I'm sharing a card that I made for this week's Shabby Tea Room Challenge . The inspiration is fall flowers with bonus points for making your own flowers.

Here is the inspiration picture:

I made the flower out of silk fabric. I stitched and gathered the bottom layer and made a rolled center. The same silk was used as the ruffled bottom to the card as well.

I used this week's Mojo Monday Sketch as the basis for the design. I strayed a bit from it as you can see.

Just a quick post to let everyone know that I haven't completely abandoned my blog! I was under the weather for the ENTIRE month of February and it took all of March to get caught up on other work and also do some Spring cleaning and gardening. I hope to be able to hunker down in my craft room and get some cards done soon. Thanks to everyone for hanging in with me! I appreciate everyone of my readers!

Tabby Cat Birthday Card

Happy Monday! Here is a card I made with a very old rubber stamp. I know I bought it several years ago and it has not seen ink ever! I probably bought it because it looks just like my cat, TC. I rediscovered it in my drawer and figured I would finally do something with it. It's from the stamp company, Rubber Soul. I need to see if they are still around because this stamp made a perfect impression the first time! I bought some new K and Company paper called Julianne at Micheal's last week. It has some vintage looking florals in blues,green and browns. Very pretty! I made this card for the Friday Mashup Sketch challenge this week. I tweaked the sketch a little to fit the smallness of the main image. I hope you like it!

My Love Valentine Card

Good morning everyone! Since February is upon us...I thought I would make another Valentine's Day card to share with you. This card is probably the most embellished card I have EVER made! I started layering and I could not stop myself. This post will be picture heavy because in order for you to see everything I took several closeups.

It all started innocently enough with my heart Sizzix die. I embossed it 3 times over with tinsel glitter embossing powder. My embellishing mojo took over from there and there is no less than 10 flowers and 4 ribbons here! I am totally giving this to my husband for Valentine's Day!

A Little Hello

Good morning everyone! Today I'm posting a monochromatic card in shades of green and white. I made it for the Cardabilities Sketch 24 this week. I absolutely loved the sketch! I created this card by welding two shapes together in my Sure Cuts A Lot cutting program and cutting it with my Cricut. The bird is from the Straight From The Nest Cricut cartridge.

The patterned paper is from the Lush collection by My Mind's Eye. Flowers and pearl swirl are from Prima. The stamp is Hero Arts.

Whimsical Butterfly Thank You Card

Hi everyone!. If you are in an area that is being affected by the snow and bad weather, please stay warm and safe! Hopefully this card will bring a dose of color to our gray and white days. I was in Micheal's this week and discovered a beautiful new line of paper by K and Company. It's called Sweet Nectar. It is really bright and cheery. I bought a 6x6 inch pad of it. I think as a card maker, that I am going to start seeking out only 6x6 or 8x8 papers. I have a HUGE stash of 12x12 papers in my craft room. The problem with a lot of them is that the patterns are way to big for a card and it just doesn't do cards justice. I like the way the papers are scaled down to accommodate the smaller paper. Just right for a card and smaller scrapbooks.

Good afternoon everyone! Today I'm posting a card that really didn't turn out as planned. I really don't know what I had in mind: I started this card over several times. The paper wasn't working out and I'm still not totally happy with it. I created it for a few challenges,so I figured I'd post it anyway. The patterned papers are from Prima marketing. I ordered it MONTHS ago, and I'm really trying to use up some paper since my stash is so huge.

Happy Saturday everyone! I am posting card today that I made using the sketch for this week's Sweet Sketch Wednedsay 86. I pulled out some more K and Company Madeline paper in my favorite shades of pink and green. I made a satin rolled rose and used it as the focal point. The stamped frame is from Fiskars and the sentiment from Crafty Secrets. I think this would be a nice card to give at a bridal shower or wedding.

The picture posted directly above show the colors at their most true. Photographing my cards at night and getting a good exposure has proven to be an elusive art,but I'm trying to get better!

Hi everyone!I have a couple of blog awards I need to acknowledge today. The first one is The Stylish Blogger Award from Donna at Donna's Designs. She actually gave this to me way back before Christmas and somehow her email was filed away until I stumbled upon it recently. Donna, I'm so sorry it took so long to post this!! I hope you can forgive me. You've been a great friend and I have enjoyed your sweet comments and visiting your wonderful blog. I even love your taste in music! In order to receive this award I have to tell eight things about myself; here goes:

1. I am a chocoholic! I NEED it almost everyday! I don't always eat it however!

2. I am a martial arts enthusiast. I have a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do and hope to restart studying it again very soon. I also want to study Jujitsu and maybe Krav Maga.

3. Despite my genteel Southern upbringing, I am a smart-butt, and sarcasm is my specialty. Only my closest peeps see this side of me! For good reason I assure you!LOL!

4. I buy way more craft supplies than I need!

5. I hoard paper and shampoo and paper towels!

6. I hate housework,but love a clean house.

7. I don't tan. my skin is really almost as white as my picture. I burn very easily,so I try to avoid the sun. Bonus to being so pale is that I am in my forties and have no wrinkles!

8. I really would like to lose a few pounds this year!

Hi Readers! I know I never post twice in one day,but I needed to get this card in the Friday Mashup 28. Their challenge this week is to use birds as your theme. Since I am a bird lover, I wanted to make an entry. I used the sketch for this week's Card Pattern Sketch 99. I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. LOL. Anyhoo, The patterned paper is by K and Company,the stamp from Inkadinkado. I used a lot of flowers this time around..I just couldn't stop! I am adding some close ups below. Have an awesome evening!

Make A Wish

Good Morning! I've been quiet the last couple of days. My daughter has been home sick,but is better now and back to school. I have been tinkering with my blog instead of being creative in the craft room. The problem is I've never been totally satisfied with how my blog looks,and have changed it on a regular basis. I wanted a 3 column set up so I can add more stuff to the sidebars without looking too cluttered. I went back to the new templates on blogger so I could design it better without having to do too much HTML or CSS. Anyway, I hope you like the appearance of my blog and it's not too hard on the eyes.

Today I'm posting a card I made using this week's CPS Sketch 202. It's clean and went together in a jiffy. My all time favorite color combinations have been black,white and one other color,so that's what I used.

I used my new Spellbinders fancy tags dies for the focal point. I see these everywhere and love them! The patterned paper is GCD Studios. I am linking this card to the following challenges:

Damask Love Card

Good Morning! I'm happy to start off this week's posts with a cute little love card. In my post yesterday, I created a card using kraft card stock. Well, I went a little crazy and made another! I have more to post later too!
I'm loving the neutral quality that it has. The patterned paper is some that I bought in bulk for a wedding project. I think it is by Kaisercraft. I still have a ton of it and am trying yo use it up.

The ribbon is a discontinued ribbon from Martha Stewart: I found it at Big Lots recently for $1 per roll. Needless to say, I stocked up! If you have a Big Lots in your area, check them out. They have a lot of scrapbooking and paper crafting items. Right now, mine has GCD studio paper packs and Bazzill card stock at incredibly good prices.

I haven't used Kraft card stock much in my cards and this challenge intrigued me. I think the colors are very beautiful together. Th kraft color somehow makes the green and pink seem more vivid and really pretty. I also played around with some new punches too. I am not used to making cards without patterned paper,but I think I like it!

Thinking Of You Butterfly Card

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are as glad to see the end of the week as I am! Today I'm sharing a card I made with some of my favorite designs and colors. I am a sucker for this gorgeous apple green paired with black and white. As a matter of fact, my craft room is this color combination. I will post pictures of my room one day soon, I just need to clean it first! I was also experimenting a technique with this card. I saw somewhere online where another card maker made a frame from her border punches by mitering the edges. I FINALLY figured out how to miter them correctly, but it didn't line up so well. If you look close, the scalloped frame of my focal image is done this way. It's not perfect, but hey, it's a handmade card and the little imperfections are what make hand crafted goods so unique.

Hugs And Kisses Valentine Card

Today I'm posting a card that I challenged myself to make. I wanted to make a Valentine card in nontraditional colors. There is still a little red,but it is pastels for the most part. Recently, I found a website that is a wonderful resource. Penny Duncan Creations is a blog that has many cut files for your electronic cutter (Cricut,Gazelle,etc).

She has graciously offered many files that resemble Spellbinder Nestabilities. The stacked hearts I used on this card come from Penny. I am tickled pink that I can save some money on Nesties. I do own a few, but at $25 a pop,that adds up quickly!

Each layer of the heart was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and stacked with a pop dot for dismension.

I used my new Martha Stewart heart punch for the flourished heart in the center. So pretty!

Happy Monday! It's cold and rainy here today and the hubby and kids are home for the Holiday. Yesterday I was able to sit down and create some cards! Here is one I created using the sketch this week at Your Next Stamp Challenge. This is an awesome sketch and my first time playing along.

Blue Butterfly Card

Hello everyone! Here is a card that I made using the Cricut Picturesque cartridge. If you've not seen this cartridge and like beautiful birds,swirls and other decorative motifs, I encourage you to check it out. Picturesque was formerly an exclusive bundle cartridge that has been made widely available by Provocraft. It is one of my favorites! One of the cuts I used is the one called "far east". It's the background square shapes. It's made up of about 4 layers. The butterfly and the tag are also from this cartridge. The paper is some new K and Company called Flora and Fauna. I used some in the card posted right below. It has several different colorways that can mix and match.

I used a Prima flower for the center. The bling is also a Prima product.The letter stickers are from Making Memories.

This stamp is one of my many favorites from Inkadinkadoo. They have so many wonderful images and are easy to find, so I have a lot of them in my collection. The papers are from a new K and Company collection I purchased at Micheals this week. It's called Flora and Fauna. Tree Of Hearts Card

Happy Monday! This morning we awoke to the sound of sleet hitting our roof and gutters. The schools are closed, so it's a happy fun day for the kids! Here is the view out on the patio:

What you talkin' bout Momma? She's a prissy dog despite her breed. Especially when it comes to cold and wet! Ok back to my card. Here's a new Valentine I made with a digital stamp I purchased from Priscilla Styles. She has some awesome images. Check her out when you are looking for digis to use in your creations.

I purposely left the image black and white save the hearts. I liked the graphic look and wanted the attention to be on the hearts. I went crazy with my scalloped die from Taylored Expressions. But I really like how this card turned out!

To The One I Love

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I'm sharing a card I made last week with my new Valentine paper from K and Company. The colors are very muted and the paper pack came with 2 sheets of these lovely vintage Valentine reproductions. I thought this little girl was just so adorable and had to use her first!

This card was so easy to put together since most of it came from the same paper group: everything matches. I added ribbons,flowers,a button and bling from my stash. I cut a swirl from my Picturesque Cricut Cartridge and added clear glitter.

Be The Change Card

Good morning! Today I'm sharing a card I made for the City Crafter Challenge Blog. The theme this week is Winter Whites. We are challenged to use white and just one other color in our creation. I chose a lovely dark teal blue. It's not really this dark and gloomy in real life. I am not a professional photographer and sometimes dark colors just don't photograph well.

All of the paper is by the Paper Studio. I embossed the white card stock with a Tom Holtz embossing folder by Sizzix. I adore them! You get a nice, deep emboss with them!

Bird Sympathy Card

Good morning! Well, today saw everyone back to school and work, and I am here with the cats and dog enjoying the peace and quiet! I love when everyone is here, the time we get to spend together is precious,especially since the kids are growing up. I tend to have more creative mojo when they are here, I guess their energy feeds me. One of my husband's co worker's Mother died recently, and this is the card I am sending.

Today I'm sharing a card I made to enter into a few challenges. I made a personal challenge to NOT use any patterned paper. It was difficult but I did it! I tried to use texture to enhance this card via the embossing and velvet ribbon.

This is a new stamp I picked up at Joann's in their dollar bin.I think it's from K&Company. I get some of the cutest stamps there.

There Is Time Card

Happy New Year! I can't believe 2011 is upon us. The last year went by so fast. The older I get, the faster time seems to fly. Today I am sharing a card that hopefully will remind us that we still have all the time we need. I think with our fast paced lives, we sometimes feel there isn't enough time in every day to do the things we need to do. I am learning to prioritize the things that really matter to me and not sweating the small stuff. Sweet Baby Shabby Chic Card

Today I'm sharing a card I created in the wake of yesterday's posted card. I just found out my two nieces are expecting this summer and I thought I would make two baby cards for them. I broke my personal record for pearls on a card: this one has a whopping 19! It also depleted my supply,so off to the store I go! I am going for the Shabby Chic style which is a departure for me, but so much fun!

Special Delivery Baby Card

Good morning everyone! I have a baby card to share today. At Christmas, I found out that 2 of my nieces are expecting! They are due in July within one week of each other! This put me in the baby card making mood! I found this wonderful digi stamp from Anne Bodil's Blog. Check our her site if you haven't already. She is very talented and generous with her free images.

Tis the Monday after Christmas...and all through my house, not a creature was stirring..everyone's still asleep! The kids are taking full advantage of the holiday by ignoring Monday morning..can you blame them? I'm posting a quick card I made for the Stamping 411 Saturday Sketch Challenge this week. I was aching to work with pink, so I did!
